The future of Belgian hip-hop
In 2016, Couleur Café created Niveau4, a one-of-a-kind hip hop show, uniting the best upcoming rappers from Brussels, Flanders and Wallonia. From Roméo Elvis and Coely over Zwangere Guy to ISHA and Brihang; the first three editions allowed a bunch of artists to present themselves to music lovers from all over the country and created long-lasting friendships between the rappers.
On Saturday June 29th, we take this project to the next level; NIVEAU4 XXL will reunite promising hip-hop and R&B artists with two upcoming jazz bands! In short, expect nothing less than the biggest, baddest and boldest show possible. Here are the main actors…
Miss Angel is a young lyricist from Antwerp influenced by UK grime, old school hip-hop and female MC’s. We’ve recently heard her strong voice alongside local heroes like Zwangere Guy, Blu Samu, Krankk and on the soundtrack of BINTI, featuring Martha Da’ro and composed by Le Motel. Recently, the whole country witnessed her incredible energy on stage when she opened for Night Lovell at Trix and Zwangere Guy at AB. Keep an eye out for he debut EP Ghetto Mami!
This young rapper from Liège has been the talk-of-the-town these last few months. The hype started when he released his first project Sang-Froid, showcasing his excellent introspective rhymes and vivid flow. His brand-new record LOVE is now in the pipeline and we honestly can’t wait to check it out. Venlo is already backed by some of the greatest Belgian rappers; he was invited by Roméo Elvis during his Planète Rap-week on the French radio Skyrock when promoting his latest album Chocolat and he released the single MMTMPS with JeanJass. This fellow is on the verge of a breakthrough and we’re on the first row.
After his featuring in last year’s Niveau4, the Brussels’ rapper is back to put the Atomium park on fire! In March, he presented his first project Space-Jam, marking the transition from “freestyling with friends” to “establishing his own identity”. His style? An authentic rap carried by both modern and old-school sounds, but with a rage and energy that have no limits. He’s joining his homie Venlo from the collective Six O Clock Gang on the Niveau4 XXL stage.
The most explosive female duo of the country is back! They’ve celebrated the release of their new EP Crumbs in a jam-packed VK at the end of March. Perfectly blending R’n’B, hip-hop and electro, these girls are skyrocketing show after show in Belgium and abroad. Their live reputation is amazing, their flows simply sick… Niveau4 XXL is made for Juicy!
No better band in Brussels than Commander Spoon to conquer the crowds! These 4 musicians amazingly mix jazz, hip-hop, rock and electro music. Two EP’s in less than a year and a third one on its way, a track and a concert on Lefto presents Jazz Cats and several performances alongside Juicy and Darrel Cole: the Commander is productive, gifted and damn smooth.
Eleven' is made up of twins Elvin and Kayla. Straight from Brussels, their music extends from R’n’B to pop and electro. They started on the web by posting covers recorded in their home studio. Given the success of their videos, they decided to compose their own tracks: their first two singles Losing my mind and Never say sorry (Ave Maria) already give us a great foretaste of their first album, to be released very soon…
Louis is something of a phenomenon amongst Antwerp hip-hop lovers. It won’t take long until the entire country tunes in. His first album Love Life Louis is eclectic as hell and allowed him to perform all across Flanders. Juggling between his collective Roedel and his solo project, he has what it takes to become one of the biggest MC’s of the country!
These self-sampling enthusiasts were the opening act of Niveau4 2017 at Ancienne Belgique. Influenced by Jonwayne, Flying Lotus or Aphex Twin, their sounds are totally home-made, even if their sets are played just like a DJ would. Alongside Commander Spoon, they will deliver all the live music for Niveau4 XXL this year. We are so excited!
